Junior Medical Research journal editorial fellowship
1. Vision
Editorial Board Member is one of the most prestigious scientific positions and a responsibility full of obligations. Young researchers
are usually more involved in scientific writing and manuscript reviews. JMR fellowship program is an objective opportunity to be a
part of the editing and publishing process under the supervision of senior editors. JMR Editorial Fellowship is a one-year mentorship
program dedicated for young and talented future’s science editors .
2. Mission
The aim of this program is to provide objective experiences that will enhance the Fellow's career in academic writing and publishing.
The Program is an opportunity in pursuing an editorial role as a peer reviewer or editor of scientific journals. This1-year certificate
program will be delivered remotely with an assigned editor to be involved in the editorial processes. The fellowship will also offer an
introduction to the journal's production and post-publication activities.
3. Fellowship program overview
This program is designed to prepare the fellows to full editorial board member career in medical journals. This will include the
opportunity to critically review papers with the supervision of assigned editors who will serve as their mentors, learning to recognize
the characteristics of well-conducted research and written communication style suitable to scientific publication. The course will
contribute to build critically approach for paper submissions that allows the fellow detect flaws in design, statistical analysis, and data
interpretation that compromise the quality of research and lead to manuscript rejection. Through interaction with current editors and
editorial board members, fellows learn the roles of editor, reviewer and get involved in the daily editorial office tasks.
4. Learning objectives
Introduce fellows to the Peer review, editing and publishing of research manuscripts in medical journals.
Provide fellows with a direct immersive insight in how a manuscript is handled, from submission to final decision.
Improve fellows research, editing and ethics skills.
Improve the relationship and collaboration between juniors and more established editors.
Increase visibility of JMR among younger scientists.
5. Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for Fellowship status in JMR, the candidate shall:
Be a junior doctor, resident, intern or late stage medical faculty member.
Have minimum of 2 years of experience in scientific research.
Have accumulated at least 20 continuing education credits (CME) over the course of the application year.
Demonstrate previous services to medical academic societies.
Submit a complete and acceptable application by the deadline (January 31, each year).
Be fluent in spoken and written English (certified language tests are advisable).
Accept volunteering and disclose all kinds of competing interest.
6. Application
Application for JMR fellowship program requires :
A current curriculum vitae.
A letter of interest to be sent to the program directors.
A recommendation from two peers from the applicant country.
